Design Story:
Mississippi Nights was a legendary music club in St. Louis, located at 914 N 1st Street in Laclede's Landing. It opened in 1976 and operated for 30 years until its closure in January 2007. The venue, which could hold up to 1,000 people, was known for hosting "all-ages" shows and a remarkably diverse range of musical genres.

The building had a unique history, originally serving as a 19th-century slaughterhouse, which explained its famous sloped floor designed for drainage. Under the ownership of Rich Frame from 1979 onward, it became a cornerstone of the St. Louis music scene. An incredible array of artists graced its stage, including Nirvana, the Police, R.E.M., Willie Nelson, John Lee Hooker, and local bands like The Urge.

The club was deeply connected to the community, fostering a sense of family among staff and patrons, with many meeting their spouses there. It was ultimately demolished to make way for the Lumière Place casino development. Its legacy endures through books, reunion concerts, and the fond memories of the generations who experienced live music on its storied stage.
