St Louis Pride shirt.

For the STL_LVE Pride shirt, I decided to do something a little different. We decided to go with a print technique that isnt often utilized: putting multiple colors in one screen. The effects of this screen printing technique are quite random as the colors mix and mingle on the screen during the print process and vary the results wildly. No two garments come out the exact same. On top of that, instead of using 2 or 3 inks in the same screen, we used 8. This made it a very tedious print process, but it worked out for the best!

The beauty in the fact that each print varies slightly - each one is individualistic in nativity but all stand in unison for a greater cause, a greater message. The LGBT+ community all differ but stand and strive for equality hand in hand. The poetry in art if you will.

An issue that weighs heavily on my heart regarding my community is it's reluctance in accepting the LGBTQ+ community. As I find myself engaged in conversation with allies and members, I realize many of the intersecting struggles that face my community (read: Black) in being a minority in America are those of the same in the LGBTQ+ community. Not to mention those in juxtaposition of being both Black/ Brown as well as those under the LGBTQ+ umbrella, a double minority (which, I could delve into more, but is a much more pointed conversation).

With this new design, I would like to forward proceeds to minority focused LGBTQ+ non-profits here in StLouis. "Metro Trans Umbrella Group" is on the list but feel free to comment with others/ more. I purposely didnt wait to release this next June (Pride Month) because I honestly feel like we should be helping, supporting, recognizing “Pride” and fighting for LGBT+ rights EVERY day. Not just doing so once as an accompanying theme on a specific month of the year.

Supporting marginalized groups should never be a thematic/ performative focus only in February or June, but a conscience thought every day. We have the resources, we just need to do the work.
