Design Story:
St. Louis is a port city in the state of Missouri whose influences are of both big city charm and small town wonder. After Thomas Jefferson acquired the Louisiana Territory in 1800, he sent explorers Lewis & Clark from St. Louis to chart it. Upon their return from the Pacific, St. Louis became the last major city before travelers headed west on the newly opened frontier; it became known as “the gateway to the west” — a name that lasted for decades. St. Louis became a booming city with many manufacturers such as fur, clothing, shoes, and breweries including Anheuser-Busch.
