Design Story:
Beginning as early as September 2014, Standing Rock Sioux Tribal leaders conducted a meeting with the Dakota Access Pipeline representatives stating their disapproval with the project. The Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) is a pipeline created used to carry oil from North Dakota to south Illinois—which would pass underneath the Missouri River. The protesters’ concern is that the pipeline might leak contaminating the river which flows through the reservation just south of the pipeline. Whether or not #NoDAPL protest encouraged President Obama’s decision to halt construction of DAPL is yet unknown, but immediately following President Trump’s inauguration the project was promptly revived.
